Report: Almost 1.6 million in U.S. prisons

Despite a year-over-year decline in the overall inmate population, U.S. prisons remain packed. The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the prison systems of 18 states were operating at above maximum capacity at the end of 2014.

Report: Mass incarceration is devastating families

Loved ones, especially women, forced to endure debt, poverty, and trauma as result of having a loved one locked up. Nearly one out of five families were not able to afford housing as a direct result of the loss of income due to their relative’s incarceration.
